The response to our crowd funding campaign was awesome, and we raised enough money to complete our landscaping! We even found another South Seattle business through the Rainier Valley Chamber of Commerce to order the plants from. So this weekend, we roped a few friends (my mom, Pat, down from Anchorage for what she thought would be a relaxing weekend, and our 1 year old friend, Eliza) to help us plant and water all of the trees and shrubs. As Seattle folks know, it’s been a super hot and dry summer so far, and the top soil was bone dry. We got some great advice from our friend Curtis on watering and planting, and managed to get the plants in and mulch spread by just after lunchtime.
Let’s get real here for a second. It was yucky hot on Saturday. Our volunteer labor was a band of freaking troopers and kept on planting through the sun and heat. Lucky for us, Tin Umbrella Coffee was right across the street with iced coffees when we needed refreshment! We also had theforethought to stash a watermelon in a cooler with ice. Eliza approved of that move.
We are so grateful to everyone who helped out with the crowd funding campaign, whether they contributed funds, shared the video, liked it on Facebook, planted plants… whatever! All
of the support is so very much appreciated.
We can’t wait to get those rotisseries going and serve up somepollo a la brasa in our newly green space!
